A. You will receive an email if the processing request fails for any reason. Please refer to the reason, and try the request again. There are cases the “Download” button is displayed in the production result list, although the status field is “processing error”. In that case, you can download the product.

Q6. Can I search for specific products using the CSW server?

A. Yes. You can search for products by specifying the Dataset ID associated with each product.
Please refer to the following document for a list of Dataset IDs:
https://img.gportal.jaxa.jp/upload/COMMON/G-Portal_datasetID_list.pdf

In addition, as part of the G-Portal renewal on October 1, 2026, the bulk download function for multiple files through the website has been discontinued.
As an alternative, we have improved usability by allowing users to perform searches through the CSW service and download data through the SFTP site.

Sample scripts and user guides for searching and downloading products using the CSW service and the SFTP site are available at the following page:
https://www.gportal.jaxa.jp/information/csw

The CSW service also supports various search conditions as optional parameters, similar to those available on the G-Portal website. We encourage users to take advantage of this functionality.

Q7. How to write credits?

A. When the user publishes analyzed results from G-Portal data, the user shall indicate proper credit as defined in the TABLE shown in G-Portal Terms of service section 7.
However, some journals and associations has rules for citation, reference and acknowledge. In that case, the user shall indicate organization(JAXA) and satellites/sensors.

Q1. Where can I find the geolocation information for 6-36 GHz channels of brightness temperature in the Level 1 product?

A.
1) L1A and L1B product
The geolocation information for 6-36 GHz channels of L1A and L1B product is derived from
latitude/longitude information for 89 GHz with using the co-registration parameters.
For the details, please refer to the following documents:
AMSR2 Level 1 Product Format Specification(Level 1A, p. 4-16)

2) L1R product
The geolocation information for 6-36 GHz channels of L1R product corresponds to that of odd-numbered
points (origin 1) of cross-track direction for 89 GHz A channel.

Q2. How can I get the geolocation information of L3 products.

A. The geolocation information is not included in HDF formatted L3 products. However, there are 2 ways to get the information.

1) The geolocation information is included in L3 products converted into NetCDF format.
It is only available by ordering via GCOM-W1 Data Providing Service.
(This converting service is not available by sftp direct download.)

2) Use AMSR2 Product I/O Toolkit (AMTK).
For more information, please refer to the following document:
GCOM-W1AMSR2 Product I/O Tool Kit (AMTK) Operation manual
(2.2 Installing AMTK Table 2.2-1,2.2-3 The contents in AMTK, p2-4,2-7)

  Notice:
If you refer the geolocation information, please care to the following:
NetCDF - correspond to that of upper left point in pixel
AMTK    - correspond to that of center point in pixel

Q3. Could you tell me the details of "Time Information" stored in the AMSR2 L3 (daily average) product?

A. The details are as follows:
1) A value in "Time information" (T) is the rest part obtained by removing the date part from an observation time (UTC).
The rest part is converted to the elapsed time from 0:00 to be used as T. The unit for T is minute.

2) T is the mean value or the latest value, which depends on a kind of the geophysical value corresponding to it.

3) If T for some geophysical value is defined as the mean value, and the geophysical value is actually made
from more than two observation data, the value finally stored in "Time Information" is not T but -T.
You can confirm the details of "Time information" (e.g. which, the mean value or the latest value, is used
as T for each geophysical value) in the below document:
Global Change Observation Mission Water(GCOM-W1)AMSR2 Higher Level Product Format Specification
- 3 Product description
Table 3-4 Static method of daily level 3 product (p.3-3)
- 4.2 Dataset
(2) Time Information (P.4-6)

Q4. How can I search the AMSR2/L3 Sea-Ice-Concentration(SIC) product on G-Portal website?

A. The map projection type of AMSR2/Level3 SIC product is "Polar-Stereo". Therefore, you should select "Polar Stereographic South" or "Polar Stereographic North" as the background map on G-Portal website.
